POTTERY VILLAGE CAFE (NAMYANGJU)

by - May 20, 2019

Hi. I apologize for not updating in awhile. I have to admit writing a blog post and updating consistently is hard work and takes alot of discipline! It's hard maintaining the passion when you start wondering if what your doing is making any difference at all. I guess for me, doing something out of pure enjoyment just for myself is not enough. But recently, a few people reached out to me with encouraging words and inspired me to continue on. So thank you. 🙏

"Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones." Proverbs 16:24

So today, I would like to share about our weekend getaway to Namyangju during lunar New Year. 🙈 I know, I am a little embarrassed about how long it is taking me to write this. But as the weather is getting warmer and you want a quick getaway from Seoul, I highly recommend Namyangju, surrounded by mountains, lakes, rivers, and artsy cafes on every corner. I have a few other posts on Namyangju, so check them out before planning a trip.

First, the Pension (사이다펜션)

I loved the pension that we stayed at with three families (6 adults and 8 kids). It's a great place for a big group which is hard to find in a decent price range. It has a huge kitchen, 4 rooms, spacious common area and a loft. There was plenty of clean bedding and pillows for all 14 of us to sleep comfortably. We also enjoyed the amenities like karaoke machine and the bbq deck with tables and grill all set up! We went there during winter time, mostly just to play games and hang out, but I believe there is a river next to the pension which is good for water play during summer. Prices vary by season, but I highly recommend this place if you are looking for a place to stay for a group.

They have two spaces you can rent. We stayed at Flower Garden Cafe (꽃밭카페)
Fits 10-50 people
284 m²

Dumulmeori Lake & YeonHotDog (두물머리 & 연핫도그)

A 20 minute drive from the pension is the famous lake, Dumulmeori. Maybe what makes the lake more famous is the Dumulmeori YeonHotdog, which serves Korean style corn-dogs. Honestly, I was thinking what is the big deal?!?! But I must say, it was definitely one of the better corn-dogs I had in my life. Don't expect more than a corn-dog though, but I do recommend it if you are already there. Then take a nice walk around the lake enjoying the scenery.

Pottery Village Cafe (카페도자기마을)

Taking a pottery class at the Pottery Village Cafe was the highlight of this trip. Our kids got to pick a pottery that they wanted to make and took turns making the pottery on the wheel with the help of the potter. While two were spinning, the others were given a block of clay for them to play with. Making the pottery is 25,000 won per person, but it also comes with a drink and their delicious honey bread. After, they will fire your pottery and ship it to your house within 3 weeks or so with extra shipping cost. You can also purchase already made pottery and dishes created by the owner.

This was a fun experience for everyone and the pottery came out so nice!
Please make reservations before going.
